Day 21

We woke up around 8.  On the way back from the bathroom one of the other campers asked me if I had seen the bear walking around.  We knew from the guy who runs the camp that a bear was in the area but unlike the other campers we knew what to do and had all food and cooking stuff in the car.

We first went to Spooner Lake.  We had been there before and knew it would be clear of snow.  It’s a 2.1 mile hike around the lake.  It goes through meadows and wooded areas.  There are lots of birds and it is pretty peaceful.  There were a few fisherman but not many as the lake is fully of leeches.

Next we headed to the beach.  Michael of course jumped right in the water.  I preferred to sit in the sand and finish my first book for my class in August.  I did eventually get up to my ankles but it was way too cold for me.  I was appalled at some of the parents at the beach.  The kids were running all over the place without supervision.  One little girl, I would guess 2 years old, almost drowned twice before her parents decided they should be watching her closer.

We stopped by the shopping area in South Tahoe.  Unfortunately, Tahoe is a rich man’s playground and most of the shops were fancy boutiques.  There are a lot of things I don’t mind spending money on but I don’t need to spend 100 dollars on a shirt.

We ended the night at a little Italian place we found.  We split a pizza but I don’t think it was as good as the pizza at home.  By this point we were already sick of pit toilets and no showers.
