We woke up early and immediately started packing up. We couldn’t believe that the kids at the other end of the park had slept outside on mats. Even in a sleeping bag it must have been a little chilly since it was about 45 at night. With the bear you couldn’t have paid me to do that.
We had decided to head to Vegas. The cord to the GPS had gotten caught in the car door and was bent. We knew we needed to find a new cord and we also needed a lock for the trailer so we could leave it in Vegas when we want to drive the car around. We were able to find both at a Wal-Mart in Reno. Then we jumped back on the road. Michael wanted to head down the extraterrestrial highway. We had no idea how desolate the drive would be. More than once we ran across signs that said over 100 miles until the next gas station.
It was so desolate and dry. We could see mirages of water in the distance and it was so hard to judge how far we really were from places. We drove past area 51 but of course you can’t seen anything. In Rachel, Nevada we found the AlieINN restaurant. It was fun to see all the alien and spaceship stuff.
We finally got to Vegas around 7:30. It was 100 degrees here! What a difference! We were very happy to finally be here. It was great to take a shower! After dinner we watched some tv then enjoyed sleeping in an actual bed for a change.
